1)Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak toppled and new government takes over Egypt.

2)Embattled Libyan President Muammar Gaddaffi battles with rebels and rest of the world to retain his position as president On 16 September 2011, the National Transitional Council was recognised by the United Nations as the legal representative of Libya, replacing the Gaddafi government. Muammar Gaddafi remained at large until 20 October 2011, when he was captured and killed attempting to escape from Sirte.The National Transitional Council "declared the liberation of Libya" and the official end of the war on 23 October 2011.

3)Ivory Coast former president Gbabo finally ousted in April as head of state and President Allassane Outtara sworn in after a long battle.

4)Nigeria Elected the president Goodluck Jonathan in peaceful democratic Elections.

5)Southern Sudan attains its Independence on 9th July after long years of civil war.

6)Former Zambian president Fredrick Chiluba dies in June
